Getting Geelong moving again
Every day Geelong Careers shares the numbers of jobs posted on Geelong Careers together with the job of the day across our social media channels. Our aim is to inspire and inform our region with the truth. Geelong Careers’ data shows the obvious impact of Covid 19 with job numbers down 38% this past month, compared with August 2019.
But the numbers of jobs loaded everyday on our live daily job feed tell another, encouraging and real story. Employers in our region are still offering jobs, across the economy, in trending industries and in new surge careers.
The GRLLEN is committed to telling the true story, to inspire real career dreams and to inform good achievable career choices for our region’s career seekers of all ages. How are our trending industries doing?
Emerging jobs?
Despite the pandemic shut down, some job numbers are staying strong:
- Agribusiness jobs are holding firm, construction continues to deliver as does health.
- Education jobs have been impacted negatively but are predicted to recover once schools resume.
- Government and Social work positions are also top performers. 5,547 people checked out jobs on Geelong Careers in August 2020, 500 more than in the same month last year, and 323 employers loaded jobs exclusively onto the free Geelong Careers site, an increase of 20 over the same period last year, when there was no Covid!
It is heartening to see more of our region accessing the free resource GRLLEN built over five years ago, created with the aim of strengthening our region’s work force. In these challenging times we need to support each other more than ever.
