Certainty for uncertain times
During the past 12 months Geelong Careers job numbers have demonstrated our region’s radical ability to respond to the challenges of a global pandemic with characteristic resilience and flexibility. Compared with the previous 12 months, 2020 job totals have remained relatively consistent. After the first lock down’s impact, jobs have resurged, particularly in health (up 53%), advanced manufacturing (up 44%), and transport and logistics (up 26%) for the 12 month total. Charity and Social Work careers have more than doubled in the same period.
Covid 19 has badly impacted Food and Fibre careers, (down 46%), Eat Stay Tour Careers (down 21.5%) and Careers in the Arts (down 10%) but with 90% of pre covid jobs regained nationally, and 10% of lost jobs already replaced with new ones, we can expect our region to bounce back in these badly impacted sectors as well. Careers in construction, government, education and IT have remained consistently strong throughout the pandemic.
Early indications for 2021 are encouraging across the board. Geelong Careers is recording record numbers of jobs on the live daily job feed which draws from all public jobs noticeboards, Linked In, Career One, Adzuna and Job Search for all postcodes in the Geelong, Colac, Golden Plains, Surf Coast and Bellarine regions.
