Chris Misfud - Connecting the Dots Helps Young People Secure Employment
Finished school and not sure where to from here?
Chris left school in 2015 unclear about what direction he wanted to go in, like many young people. He was contacted by Bek Gill as part of the On Track Connect program, conducted annually through Geelong Region LLEN, which aims to connect young people who have either completed schooling or left school early, and are not in full-time employment or education/training with local services that can assist them. Bek connected Chris with the Transition to Work program being conducted by GForce Employment Solutions, a longstanding member of the Geelong Region LLEN’s Employment Ecosystem. GForce have integrated their Transition to Work initiative (and other programs) with the LLEN’s work as part of developing a regional response to youth unemployment.
GForce provides support and assistance
Chris and his Youth Work Coach worked on career path, goal setting, and looking at areas he might be interested in. After some discussion, Chris thought he might like to pursue a career in meat processing, which is part of the growing food and fibre industry. This industry is predicted to experience a 50% growth over the next five years, presenting excellent opportunities for young people looking for a sustainable career path.
G-Force has a long standing relationship with MC Herds, a local meat processing facility, and were able to secure an interview for Chris. GForce helped prepare Chris for his interview, assisting with clothing and doing mock interviews to give him the best chance of success. This helped build Chris’ confidence and gave him a deeper understanding of the interview process. He was successful at interview and secured a position with MC Herds.
Success!
GForce have continued to provide Chris with support as he navigates his way through his first job, by offering intensive post placement support to ensure any issues that may arise are addressed early. Chris has already made some good friends and is really enjoying the training so far. He says that every day is something
new! MC Herds are a fantastic local employer, and we are pleased to see Chris flourishing in his new role.
